After kidney transplant teenager now aspires to be doctor

After getting a new lease of life after successful kidney transplant at a Panchkula hospital, 18-year-old Tanisha from Yamunanagar now aspires to become a doctor.

Tanisha was 16 when suddenly her health started deteriorating. At the PGI, Chandigarh, she was confirmed to have kidney problems with immediate requirement of kidney transplant.

‘Not a bit’, said Tanisha at a press conference here on Wednesday, on being asked if she was scared.

“My family was with me and their support helped me to come out of that dark phase,” she asserted.

Tanisa underwent a successful kidney transplant in May 2023 at a Panchkula hospital. Sachin Sardana her father donated his kidney to save his daughter.

Tanisha is now perfectly well and preparing for NEET to become a doctor now, said Dr Neeraj Goyal.

“Kidney failure is a critical condition, but kidney transplant offers patients a chance to lead a healthy life,” he said.

While highlighting the urgent need to promote organ donation in India, he said that organ donation was a life-saving act. Despite a population of 140 crore, the country has only 0.8 organ donors per million, leaving thousands of patients in dire need, he said.
