In a significant move to curb social evils, the Sarvajaatiya Athgama Khap panchayat has imposed a complete ban on celebratory firing at weddings and other social functions. The decision follows the tragic death of 13-year-old Jiya from Bahu village, Jhajjar district, during a wedding in Charkhi Dadri four days ago.

The Khap, during its meeting at Ghasola village today, decided to report anyone attending functions with firearms to the police. The panchayat also resolved to launch an awareness campaign addressing social issues like drug addiction to improve community welfare.

The executive meeting, chaired by pradhan Ranveer Singh, a former sarpanch, focused on eliminating harmful practices and promoting community well-being. “We have taken a strong stand against celebratory firing to prevent tragic incidents like the recent one. Additionally, we are emphasising keeping the youth away from drugs and harmful practices,” Singh said.
