Though the investigating agencies are not ready to say anything yet, the arrested suspected terrorist, Abdul Rehman, is reportedly linked with the Al-Qaeda.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) and Research and Analysis Wing (R&AW) teams are camping at Palwal to investigate the case. A senior investigating officer of the Special Task Force (STF), Palwal, said several rounds of interrogation were going on by the intelligence agencies due to which the STF did not get time to interrogate even after three days of the police remand of Rehman.

“It is revealed that Rehman remained in touch with his terrorist associates and mentors through Facebook and Instagram. Apart from two mobiles, Aadhaar card, PAN card, passport size photographs and Rs 2,920 were seized from his possession. We are checking his call details. Some suspicious videos, inciting religious sentiments, have been found in both mobiles,” the officer said on condition of anonymity.

Investigation has revealed that Class X passout, Rehman was allegedly involved in terror activities for the past over a year. He was taking online training through the terrorist organisation, ISI. Rehman was arrested from Pali village of Faridabad by a joint team of the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), Gujarat, and STF, Palwal, on Sunday. He is now in 10-day police remand with the STF.

The accused revealed that he had come to Delhi from Faizabad in a train and reached Pali to collect hand grenades. The ATS received a tip-off, leading to his arrest.

A senior investigation officer said Rehman claimed that he did not know the name and address of the person who provided the grenades. Central intelligence agencies have launched a probe into the matter and are working with the state security forces to dismantle any sleeper cells linked to the plot, they said.

On Monday, the STF team raided Rehman's house at Milkipur in Faizabad of Uttar Pradesh. His mother said he used to drive a battery-operated rickshaw and had gone to Delhi. His father refused to talk about his son’s terror connections.

“The matter is very sensitive and investigation is going on. It is too early to say anything,” said Madan Singh, ACP (STF).
