The Palwal police today launched a massive drive to identify and arrest those involved in the violence druing protest against Agnipath scheme in the district on Thursday.

With over 1,000 persons booked in three FIRs, the police arrested 23 persons of the total accused so far.

With the police force holding a flag march in the city, the district authorities have appealed to residents not to indulge in protests.

The authorities said Section 144 was still in order.

A spokesperson of the district police said 80 youths had been booked by name, while 950 were yet to be identified and three FIRs had been registered in connection with the violent protests.

A police official said 23 persons were arrested till 4 pm and the process of identifying the remaining accused was on.

“The arrests are being made on the basis of verification and identification from video clippings and on the basis of information given by the arrested suspects. Several vehicles were damaged and many injured. Protesters also pelted stones on the police and residence of the DC, owing to which the police had to resort to lathi-charge,” a police official said.

“Internet services, which were suspended till 4 pm today, may be resumed if the situation remains normal,” he added.
