Ahilyabai Holkar embodied nation-building with dharma & vision: KU Vice-Chancellor

A one-day extension lecture on “Lokmata Devi Ahilyabai Holkar’s Contribution to Nation-Building” was organised by the Dr BR Ambedkar Study Centre at Kurukshetra University (KU) on the occasion of Devi Ahilyabai Holkar’s 300th birth anniversary.

In his presidential address, KU Vice-Chancellor Professor Som Nath Sachdeva stated that Ahilyabai Holkar remains a timeless icon of nation-building, grounded in dharma, justice and visionary leadership. He remarked that her reign symbolised a golden era of inclusive governance, spiritual revival and public welfare.

Professor Sachdeva further highlighted that Ahilyabai Holkar played a pivotal role in nation-building through her just administration, welfare initiatives and spiritual renaissance. “She restored temples, promoted education and upheld dharma, setting an enduring model of inclusive and enlightened leadership,” he said.

KU Registrar Dr Virender Pal described Ahilyabai Holkar’s legacy of ethical leadership, social justice and inclusive governance as a continuing source of inspiration for modern India.

The Chief Guest, Dr Reshma Prasad, a social thinker from Bihar, described Queen Ahilyabai Holkar of Malwa as one of the bravest women in Indian history, whose unique leadership and foresight left an indelible mark on the pages of history.

Professor Ramesh Dhariwal of Government College, Bilaspur, noted that Ahilyabai Holkar’s governance was characterised by religious values, good administration and a spirit of service.

Dr Vijay Kumar, Registrar of Guru Jambheshwar University; IIHS Principal Professor Rita Dalal; Chairperson of the Internal Complaints Committee at KU, Professor Sunita Siroha; and Centre Director Dr Pritam Singh also shared their insights on the occasion.
