Chandigarh, February 22
State Medical Education and Research Minister Anil Vij today said that AIIMS-Rewari, the foundation stone of which was laid by PM on February 16, was being established at an estimated cost of Rs 1,646 crore, and was expected to be commissioned by November, 2025.
Vij was speaking in connection with the calling attention motion moved by Congress MLA Chiranjeev Rao during the Budget session in the Vidhan Sabha. He wanted to know when the OPD would become functional and when MBBS classes would be started. He took a dig at the BJP for announcing it in 2015 at Bawal and the PM announcing it in 2019, before the stone was laid in 2024. Stating that it was a Central project, Vij said
the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare decided to set up AIIMS in various states, with the intention to correct regional imbalances in the availability of affordable tertiary healthcare services and to augment facilities for quality medical education in the country.
The state government had earmarked 200 acres at Manethi village in Rewari district for setting up AIIMS. The gram panchayat was to lease the land for the purpose. However, the land was found to be in the Aravalli plantation area and the Forest Advisory Committee (FAC) of the Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate changes did not approve the proposal.
