Having battled with heavy smog in November, Gurugram is celebrating good air days in December. With a wind speed of 140 kmph, Wednesday witnessed city’s air improving and AQI dropping to 140 and the air quality was ‘moderate’. This also marks the best air quality in this month since 2022.This is second good air day of Month as city witnessed moderate AQI even on Monday.

The System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting and Research (Safar), however, warns that the relief may be short-lived and the AQI may worsen to the ‘poor’ or ‘very poor’ category.

According to CPCB’s 24-hour average data, the monitoring station at Sector 51 recorded the highest PM2.5 levels at 190 µg/m³, followed by Gwalpahari (187 µg/m³), Teri Gram (167 µg/m³), and Vikas Sadan (156 µg/m³). AQI at the four stations was ‘moderate’.

PM10 levels were also highest in Gwal Pahari (162 µg/m³). It was 158 µg/m³ at Sector 51 and 132 µg/m³ at Teri Gram. Vikas Sadan did not record this data. CPCB’s annual average permissible limits for PM2.5 and PM10 are 60 µg/m³ and 100 µg/m³, respectively.

“With mainly clear skies on Thursday, smog/mist is likely during the evening and night. Predominant wind is likely from the northwest direction with a speed of less than 10 kmph during the morning and night. It may increase up to 16 kmph during the afternoon. A ventilation index lower than 6000 m2/s and average wind speed of less than 10 kmph is unfavourable for dispersion of pollutants,” warned Safar.
