Akhilesh, Tejashwi set to campaign in Ahirwal region
Former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav and former Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav will spice up the poll battle in Ahirwal in September-end.
They will address election meetings in favour of outgoing MLA and Congress candidate from Rewari Chiranjeev Rao who is son Capt Ajay Singh Yadav, Ahir stalwart and national president of the Congress’ OBC department.
Dominated by the Ahir community, Rewari also has a large number of migrant labourers from UP and Bihar. The two leaders’ visit would not only help woo migrants and Ahir voters, but also boost the Congress’ campaign in Rewari and other seats in the Ahirwal region, claimed a local political observer.
“Both Akhilesh and Tejashwi are our relatives and among top leaders of the Ahir community. While remaining in power, they have worked a lot for development of their states. They have agreed to campaign for me in Rewari, but the dates are yet to be finalised,” said Chiranjeev.
Chiranjeev, who is in the fray for the second time, is attracting public attention through his different canvassing style. Besides trying his hand at the gully cricket to bond with the youth, he was seen driving a tractor in rural areas to strike a chord with farmers.
In his poll meetings, Chiranjeev has targeted the BJP over unemployment, inflation and the Agnipath scheme. He also raised local issues like potholed roads, waterlogging and corruption in municipal bodies.
Chiranjeev has also flagged the demand for an Ahir Regiment in the Army.
“The formation of the Ahir Regiment is not a demand, but a right. I have made sincere efforts for it. I not only carried out a signature campaign, but also took out a padyatra to mount pressure on the Centre for its formation. I raised the issue in the Vidhan Sabha too. On coming to power, the Congress will get a resolution for the formation of the regiment passed in the Vidhan Sabha and send it to the Centre for implementation,” said Chiranjeev while addressing a poll meeting here.
