All India inter-varsity women's basketball championship beings at KU
The All India Inter University Women's Basketball Championship started at Kurukshetra University on Monday. The championship will conclude on March 8.
On the occasion, KU Vice-Chancellor Prof Som Nath Sachdeva said it was a matter of pride that Kurukshetra University was hosting the prominent championship. He further said “Sports are not only the platforms for winning medals, but a vital way to win people’s hearts too. Sports belong to everyone. Sports not only create champions, they also unify, promotes peace, progress and wellness.”
Sachdeva cited the example of India's tallest female basketball player Poonam Chaturvedi and said how she struggled in adverse circumstances and took her sports career to new heights.
While highlighting the sports heritage of Kurukshetra University, he said Kurukshetra University had a glorious history of 6 Padma Shri, 16 Arjun Awardees, and 6 Dronacharya Awardee players.
Sports Director Prof Dinesh Rana said a total of 16 women teams were participating in this championship.
