The wait for city residents is set to end soon as the all-weather swimming pool in Sector 32 is expected to begin operations in January. The agency, which had been assigned the ambitious project being developed under the Karnal Smart City initiative, is giving it the final touch.

The Karnal Smart City Ltd (KSCL), the agency managing the Karnal Smart City project, has initiated the process of installing a power line and transformer for the facility.

“The Deputy Commissioner-cum-CEO, Uttam Singh, has directed the agency to expedite the finishing work while ensuring quality. We are hopeful that the work will be completed this month. We are hopeful that this all-weather swimming pool will start operations in January,” said Ramphal, General Manager of KSCL.

“A separate power feeder is being installed for the project. The transformer has been installed and power lines are being erected, with the power supply expected to be ready in a few days,” he added.

The all-weather swimming pool is a part of an indoor sports complex, which has been constructed at a cost of Rs 44 crore. Besides, the sports complex has four badminton courts with spectator gallery, a yoga hall, cafeteria and gym, he said.

The project has missed several deadlines as the work on this project began in August 2022 and it was initially scheduled for completion by the end of August 2023. However, delays in the arrival of tensile fabric from Austria via sea route and changes in the scope of work pushed the deadlines to February 29, May 31, and later to the end of June, all of which were missed.

The General Manager claimed that the facility would feature two pools — a main swimming pool (50m x 25m) and a warm-up pool (25m x 21m). The pools will include ten lanes and be equipped with modern amenities such as heating, filtration, lighting, timing system and a digital scoreboard. Separate sections will cater to beginners, intermediate and advanced swimmers. A spectator gallery with a seating capacity of 368 has been constructed above the separate changing and shower rooms for children, men and women. CCTV cameras have also been installed to ensure safety and security at the facility, he added.

“The indoor sports complex, comprising the all-weather swimming pool, badminton courts with a spectator gallery, yoga hall, and gym, will boost the sports culture in the city. The agency has been asked to complete it at the earliest,” said Uttam Singh, CEO KSCL.
