Allocation for research & innovation gladdens hearts in textile hub

The Interim Budget presented by Union Finance Minister Nirmla Sitaraman on Thursday evoked mixed response from the textile sector in Panipat and Sonepat.
“We welcome the Interim Budget tabled in Parliament on Thursday as the Union Government has laid emphasis on skill development and empowering of the youth. In textile industry, skilled labour is a big necessity. Overall, it is a balanced Interim Budget,” said Surender Mittal, an exporter. However, it is an Interim Budget, but we hope that the new government will come up with a good budget for the development of the industry, said Mittal.
Raman Chhabra, president, Young Entrepreneur Society (YES), said the Interim Budget was good for the industries as the Union Government had allocated Rs one lakh crore for research and innovation and it was very appreciable. Panipat was a textile hub, but there was no research centre here. Innovation was a basic need for the betterment of any product. “Panipat started with the handloom and after that we upgraded to power looms, then further to shuttleless technique after which productivity and quality improved and now, we have been thinking about the upgraded shuttleless technology,” he said. Subhash Gupta, president, Kundli Industrial Association, Sonepat, said there was no change in it. There was nothing for the industries, as it was only an Interim Budget, he said.
