If any person is found sleeping on roads and other open areas, they must be shifted to night shelters, he said.

The secretary of the district unit of the Red Cross Society, Vijay Laxmi, and office-bearers of the Nagrik Sewa Sadan informed the DC about the arrangements made and facilities being provided.

“The district administration and the Red Cross Society have been making all arrangements at the night shelters to provide relief to the needy people. The public and other organisations should also come forward to provide respite to the homeless,” the DC said.

Laxmi said, "Arrangements for the night stay of 100 persons have been made at Nagrik Sewa Sadan and a bus, converted into a night shelter, is parked outside the Ambala city bus stand. Anyone can stay there. Similarly, night shelters have been arranged in Ambala Cantonment, Naraingarh and Barara areas by the respective civic bodies.

She said, “A Neki Ki Deewar, in view of the winter season, to provide warm clothes to the needy people, used to be set up but it was observed that a large number of people were donating very poor quality clothes which were not suitable to be given to anybody. It has been decided to set up a stall near the Red Cross Office in Ambala City from where the needy will be able to get clothes, and it will be ensured that only good quality clothes are kept for them. We will also appeal to the local residents to come forward for the cause and donate only good quality stuff for the needy.”
