Ambala Division collects over Rs 9 cr fine in three months

The Ambala Division of the Northern Railway has collected over Rs 9.61 crore in the form of fine from unauthorised passengers over the past three months.

As per data obtained from the Ambala Division, nearly 79,300 passengers were caught travelling without ticket by the checking squad of the division and a fine of over Rs 5.80 crore were imposed.

While 25,880 passengers were caught in December, and a fine of over Rs 1.86 crore was imposed on them, 25,380 people were caught in January and a fine of Rs 1.81 crore was imposed on them. As many as 28,030 people were caught in February.

Besides this, over 80,000 people were caught under other penalty cases and with irregular tickets, and a fine of Rs 3.78 crore was realised from them over the past three months.

While over 25,000 passengers were caught in December, over 24,000 were caught in January and a fine of Rs 1.13 crore was imposed by the ticket checking squad. Similarly in February, over 31,000 people were caught.

Around 1,280 people were fined for carrying unbooked luggage and Rs 2.95 lakh was realised from them.

A railway official said, “Regular checking drives are carried out by the Ambala Division in all the trains across the division so that passengers with proper tickets don’t face any inconvenience due to those who are travelling without tickets. The passengers must travel with proper ticket and follow the rules. Sometimes, people are caught travelling in superfast trains while they have tickets of mail express trains, and also travel in sleeper and booked coaches while the ticket is of general coach.”

Meanwhile, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Naveen Kumar said, “It has always been the endeavour of Ambala Division to curb the menace of irregular travelling. The passengers should travel with proper tickets to avoid inconvenience. All efforts are being made by the division to ensure that passengers with proper tickets get a smooth journey.”
