With the inspection of a 90-km section from New Khatauli junction to New Pilkhani Junction on July 26, the full-fledged commercial operations under the Meerut unit of Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor is expected to commence next month.

The nearly 220-km section from Khurja to New Pilkhani is under the Meerut unit. The Khurja-New Khatauli section is already in operation, and now trial operations are underway in the New Khatauli-New Pilkhani section.

The full-fledged commercial operations under Meerut unit will increase the goods train traffic under the Ambala Unit too, as a 175.1 km section from New Sahnewal in Punjab to New Pilkhani in UP of the Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor under the Ambala unit is already operational.

As per the information, a team led by Principal Chief Safety Officer of the Northern Railway will inspect the section. The Meerut unit is expected to be brought under the Ambala unit for operations and maintenance by the year-end.

Pankaj Gupta, Chief General Manager, Ambala unit, Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India Limited (DFCCIL), said “Trial commercial operations are currently under way in the New Pilkhani-New Khatauli section.”
