Ambala man gets RI for life, Rs 20,000 fine in murder case

The court of District and Sessions Judge Kanchan Mahi has sentenced a man to rigorous imprisonment for life in connection with the murder case of Gaurav (23), who was killed in October 2022.

The court has sentenced Gurmeet Singh, a resident of Saha in Ambala, and also slapped a fine of Rs 20,000 on him.

Additional District Attorney Neeraj Rana said on October 6, 2022, Ankit, younger brother of Gaurav in his complaint to the police had stated that Gurmeet Singh and Gaurav were good friends but Gurmeet was a drug addict. Gaurav used to stop Gurmeet from taking drugs due to which they used to have arguments. On October 6, they again had arguments over the same issue and all of a sudden Gurmeet stabbed Gaurav with a knife in his stomach and managed to flee. Gaurav was rushed to the PCH, Bihta, and then to Civil Hospital, Ambala Cantonment, from where he was referred to the PGI, Chandigarh, where he died while undergoing treatment. A case was registered at Saha police station under Section 302 of the IPC and the accused was arrested on October 7.

The court held Gurmeet guilty and sentenced him to rigorous imprisonment for life under Section 302 of the IPC and imposed a fine as well.
