Ambala, July 23

After outsourcing sterilisation of stray dogs, the Municipal Council (MC) has hired a private firm to catch pigs in Ambala Cantonment.

The development assumes significance as the pig menace has assumed alarming proportions, with pigs seen roaming around on roads, streets and public places without any check.

According to the MC officials, the contractor will be paid at the rate of Rs 35 per kg for catching the pigs and handing them over to the civic body.

The number of stray pigs has increased manifold in the recent past, and residents in several slums and villages falling under the MC limits also keep them illegally.

“None of the residents had licence or taken permission to keep the pigs in the municipal areas,” said MC sanitary inspector Vinod Beniwal.

The MC will further sell the pigs to slaughterhouses for generating revenue, and recovering the amount paid to the contractor.

The MC officials said the residents could call the contractor at 9416895599 or sanitary inspector at 9467083167 to report stray pigs in the area.
