Ambala MC plans tour of councillors to Vijayawada

Aiming at improving sanitation as well as ranking in the ‘Swachh Survekshan’, the Ambala Municipal Corporation has come out with a plan to explore the innovative sanitation techniques adopted by Vijayawada in Andhra Pradesh.

Vijayawada had bagged third rank in the list of cleanest cities in the country in the Swachh Survekshan 2021. Improving its national ranking, the Ambala Municipal Corporation had secured 90th rank in the category of civic bodies with 1 to 10 lakh population in the ‘Swachh Survekshan-2021’. The municipal corporation in a letter to the Mayor and all members (elected and nominated) of the Ambala Municipal Corporation has sought their consent if they want to go for a tour to Vijayawada.

A letter issued by the corporation, on Monday, reads that every year the government evaluates the cities under the Swachh Bharat Mission and issues the Swachhta ranking. Vijayawada had ranked third in the list of cleanest cities. To keep Ambala Municipal Corporation clean, it would be suitable to explore the techniques being adopted by Vijayawada. The interested members can give their consent by August 6. Meanwhile, Mithun Verma, a civic body member from Ward 10, said, “It is a good step by the civic body to improve the cleanliness of the city. Looking at the development, progress and cleanliness of the city, I have given my consent for the tourto Vijayawada. It will definitely help the corporation in strengthening the ranking in Swachh Survekshan.”

Deputy Municipal Commissioner Vinod Nehra said, “The corporation has been taking different measures to improve the sanitary condition of the areas under the MC limit. During a discussion regarding further strengthening of the ranking and cleanliness, it was decided that one should learn from other cities and how they have been strengthening their rankings. It has been planned to visit Vijayawada to explore the innovative sanitation techniques under the Swachh Bharat Mission being adopted there.”

“It was also decided that the members of the civic body should tour Vijayawada. We have sought consent from the members, ” he added.
