Ending suspense, Tohana JJP MLA Babli toes party line in Assembly

Putting an end to the suspense over his stand in the Assembly, the JJP MLA from Tohana Devender Babli supported the BJP-JJP government during floor test to ensure win of the government in the no-confidence motion on Wednesday.

Earlier in the day, his supporters gathered at his office in Tohana town of Fatehabad district to discuss his possible move. Manoj Babli, a brother of Devender Babli, told The Tribune that about 500 close workers have attended the meeting who left it to the MLA to take a final call on matter. “We discussed the issue whether the MLA should support or oppose the no-confidence motion in view of the farmers agitation. The sentiments of the workers was conveyed to him,” Manoj said while refusing the share the details of the discussion in the meeting.

In a statement to the mediapersons yesterday, Davinder Babli had urged his party, JJP, to walk out of the government in view of the pending issues of farmers. Babli has urged the JJP to walk out of the government as there has been pressure on the government and the leaders, including the chief minister and deputy chief minister and the JJP MLAs are not able to organise public meetings in their constituencies.

His supporters kept their fingers crossed throughout the day as the MLA finally opted to go with the government during the vote in Assembly. The political observer said the yesterday’s utterances of the Tohana and the workers meeting at his residence was an exercise to project him as sympathiser of the farmers.
