Gurugram, January 9
To enhance social infrastructure of the city, the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) is planning to build a library-cum-amphitheatre at Tau Devi Lal Biodiversity Park in Sector 52A.

The GMDA claims that the structure will create a space within the biodiversity park, where people can socialise and promote the habit of reading.
As per the plan, the structure will be spread across 1,500 square metres and will be able to accommodate 100 visitors.
It is being built as replacement to the epicentre city’s only cultural centre that was closed in 2016.
The Municipal Corporation of Gurugram, had earlier proposed to build a cultural complex in Sector 53, but the project is yet to take off.
According to the GMDA, the city needs to now concentrate on building social infrastructure as there is hardly any space in the city for communities to gather and participate in social and cultural activities.
There are three amphitheatres in the city — one each in Aravalli Biodiversity Park in DLF 3, Leisure Valley in Sector 29 and Kamla Nehru Park in Sadar Bazar. But these amphitheatres don’t have adequate amenities for visitors.
A GMDA official said, “The space will be spread across 1,500 square metres with ample seating space and a cafeteria for visitors. We will make it available for events like book launches or group discussions.”
“The purpose of developing such infrastructure is to provide modern spaces for communities, where they can read or socialise. We will engage an agency to provide books and carry out maintenance work of the facility,” the official added.
