Sirsa MP Kumari Selja said the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT), launched to improve the infrastructure of cities and towns, had fallen prey to corruption.
Demanding a 'white paper' on expenditure and works undertaken under this scheme, Selja said AMRUT failed wherever it had been implemented.
In a statement issued here, the MP said AMRUT was launched on June 25, 2015, by the Ministry of Urban Development to improve the infrastructure of cities and towns, including providing facilities such as water, sewerage, urban transport and parks.
The goal was to enhance the quality of life for everyone, especially the poor and marginalised, she said.
The AMRUT was launched in 500 selected cities and towns across the country, however, the scheme became a victim of corruption, said Selja, adding that the government turned a blind eye despite being aware of the issues.
"In Sirsa, Rs 40 crore was spent on laying pipelines for rainwater drainage. Yet, the city is plagued by waterlogging," added Selja.
