Another school inaugurated in Sirsa village for kids of brick-kiln workers
A new Bhatha School was inaugurated on Monday in Mithanpura village to provide education to children of migrant workers employed at brick-kilns. This is the second attempt to open such a school near the workplace. The opening event also included a dental camp, distribution of study materials and tree planting, organised with the help of the Lions Club. The school was inaugurated by Ellenabad SDM Arpit Sangal and DFSCO Mukesh Kumar.
On the occasion, SDM Arpit Sangal stated the importance of education in life and said that it plays a crucial role in improving living standards and advancing society. He mentioned that efforts like these can help connect children who are not attending school. Thirty children have already enrolled in the school.
This initiative started earlier with the opening of a school at the Surkhalia Brick-kiln on January 26, under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner Shantanu Sharma, Additional Deputy Commissioner Lakshit Sareen and DFSCO Mukesh Kumar, with support from the Brick-Kiln Association. These schools aim at providing basic education to the children of migrant labourers in Sirsa.
Mukesh Kumar, District Food and Supply Controller, explained that the children of migrant workers, who stay with their families at brick-kilns for about six months, often miss out on basic education. The initiative to bring these children into the education system was led by Additional Deputy Commissioner Lakshit Sareen, who coordinated with various stakeholders, including the DFSCO office, Contact Foundation, and others, to provide education through audio-video methods.
Following the success of the model in other districts such as Jhajjar, Jind and Patiala, similar schools are planned for Ellenabad and Dabwali. Mukesh Kumar highlighted the collaborative efforts of private organisations like the Brick-Kiln Association, NGOs like Lions Club and several government departments, including the ADC office, DFSCO, and DEEO, in making the initiative successful.
