Anti-encroachment drive brings relief to Jhajjar residents
The municipal council (MC) and the traffic police today jointly carried out an anti-encroachment campaign, bringing much-needed relief to residents long troubled by illegal shop extensions. On the occasion, the police also issued challans against those vehicles parked at unauthorised places.
The joint operation began at Ambedkar Chowk and continued through Dhaud Chowk, targeting shopkeepers who had illegally occupied public walkways and roads. As soon as the municipal workers arrived, many of whom were seen hurriedly removing items displayed beyond their shop limits.
The municipal employees confiscated hoardings, signboards, and other goods that had been placed illegally outside shops. These items were loaded onto municipal trucks and taken away. The campaign lasted for nearly two hours, with the traffic police and municipal staff working in tandem to clear the encroachments.
Speaking to the media, Sub-Inspector Naresh Kumar, in-charge (Traffic) detailed the operation and emphasised the long-standing nature of the issue. “We received multiple complaints about encroachments causing traffic jams. Despite repeated warnings, many shopkeepers continued to extend their shops by several fts onto public roads, severely disrupting the traffic,” he added.
He said stricter action would be taken in future if encroachments reappeared. The shopkeepers were also given clear instructions to operate strictly within the legal limits of their premises, or face legal consequences.
