Former Union Minister and Hamirpur MP Anurag Thakur criticised the Congress for allegedly politicising the funeral arrangements of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. Speaking at a press conference in Fatehabad, Thakur accused the Congress of opposing decisions it had itself made regarding the location of the funeral.

He reminded Congress leader Rahul Gandhi of his family’s controversial decision to stop former Prime Minister Narasimha Rao’s funeral from being held in Delhi.

On the issue of farmer protests, Thakur dismissed claims of ongoing movements, asserting that the BJP government had delivered more for farmers than any other party. He challenged Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to provide details about their governments’ procurement of crops and storage facilities.

Regarding the Delhi elections, Thakur expressed confidence in the BJP's victory, claiming that the AAP had failed to deliver basic services to Delhi residents. He criticised the AAP government for its inability to meet public needs, stating, “AAP’s governance has fallen short on every front.”

Later in the day, Thakur visited the Chautala family’s Teja Khera farmhouse in Sirsa to offer his condolences. He paid homage to Om Prakash Chautala, describing him as a “true public servant” who tirelessly worked for the welfare of the people.

“Chautala ji’s legacy is one of selfless service,” Thakur said. “My father, Prem Kumar Dhumal and Chautala ji shared a deep and cooperative relationship, working together for the welfare of the people.”

He highlighted Chautala’s contributions to Haryana and Himachal Pradesh, noting his influence beyond state boundaries.

Former Haryana Education Minister Geeta Bhukkal also paid tribute, calling Chautala’s death a significant loss for both his family and Indian politics. “He fought for farmers, workers, and the underprivileged,” Bhukkal said.

Abhay Chautala, the late leader’s son, thanked visitors for their support, describing his father as a man of simplicity and dedication. “My father’s work for society will never be forgotten,” he said.

Other leaders, including Congress MLAs Mohammad Israil and Aditya Surjewala, also attended the tribute event.
