Arrest not enough, we need homes: Mahira homebuyers

Refusing to comment on the arrest of former Congress MLA Dharam Singh Chhoker in a money laundering case involving nearly Rs 1,500 crore, the aggrieved homebuyers of Mahira projects expressed disappointment, stating that the arrest alone has no bearing on their prolonged suffering and uncertain future.

"We are homeless and expect authorities and the government to take steps to give us our promised homes. We urge the Department of Town and Country Planning (DTCP) and Haryana Real Estate Regulatory Authority (HRERA) to take prompt action to resolve the issues surrounding the commencement of construction for the Mahira 68 project," the homebuyers said.

They said, "As homebuyers, we placed our trust in the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, DTCP, and HRERA, so we are their responsibility. However, we now find ourselves without support or guidance. The cancellation of the licence or placing the project on indefinite hold does not serve the interests of the genuine buyers and only deepens our uncertainty and hardship."

Emphasising their call for resolution, they said, "We seek a constructive solution that prioritises the homebuyers' rights and aspirations."

According to the buyers, around 800 flats in the Mahira 68 project are nearly ready and could be handed over within six months. They further estimated that the entire project could be completed in 1.5 years if given proper administrative support and direction.
