Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convener Arvind Kejriwal is all set to address two public meetings in Haryana today. He will be accompanied by AAP Haryana state president Dr Sushil Gupta and other senior leaders of the party.

The first meeting will be organised at the historic 'Chaubisi Chabutara' in Meham town of Rohtak district, and the second at HUDA park in Bhiwani.

Talks for an alliance with the Congress having failed, the AAP leadership is trying to get a foothold in Haryana by promising a viable political alternative to the state voters.

Hoping to get some benefit of the anti-incumbency sentiment prevailing in the state following two successive tenures of the BJP government, the party has come up with the slogan "Badlenge Haryana ka haal, ab laayenge Kejriwal."

Nevertheless, the party nominees face a Herculean task in Haryana, where the Congress and the BJP are the main warriors in the ongoing electoral battle.

Vikas Nehra, the AAP candidate from Meham Assembly constituency, is locked in a multi-cornered contest involving the sitting MLA Balraj Kundu, Congress nominee Balram Dangi, BJP's Deepak Hooda, BJP rebel Radha Ahlawat and former INLD MLA Bali Pahalwan, who is contesting as an independent.

Kejriwal has been promising to waive power tariff, establish Mohalla Clinics and improve the standard of government schools to the people of Haryana on the pattern of Delhi and Punjab.

"AAP stands a slim chance of getting any worthwhile success amidst the existing political scenario in Haryana, though the things would have been somewhat different in case it forged an alliance with the Congress," observes Prof Harish Kumar, Head, Department of Journalism and Mass Communication at Maharshi Dayanand University (MDU) in Rohtak.
