ASHA workers hold protest near CM camp office in Karnal

Infuriated over being stopped from protesting at their Director’s office in Panchkula on February 29, scores of ASHA workers, along with employees of other departments, staged a protest near the CM camp office here today.
Demands
ASHA workers want the state to bring them on a par with government employees. Besides, they are demanding a monthly salary of Rs 26,000, ESI facilities, retirement benefits etc.
They wanted to gherao the camp office, but the police stopped them at some distance where they staged a dharna. The protesters handed over a memorandum, addressed to the Chief Minister, to the Deputy Civil Surgeon.
They have been demanding to be brought on a par with government employees along with a monthly salary of Rs 26,000, ESI facilities, retirement benefits etc.
Neeru, who led the protest, said they had protested for 73 days across the state and on the assurance of the government, they had ended their protest, but their demands have not been considered.
“We demand the fulfilment of promises, including a fix allowance of Rs 4,000 during the strike. If our demands are not met, we will be forced to protest again,” she added.
