Sirsa institute to plant 500 saplings
Sirsa: Jan Nayak Choudhary Devi Lal Vidyapeeth will plant 500 saplings on the campus in the monsoon this year. Kuldip Singh Dhindsa, Director-General of the institute, highlighted the alarming rise in global temperatures by 1°C since pre-industrial times due to pollution. He said the global population has surged from 1.6 billion in 1900 to nearly 8 billion today, intensifying pressure on natural resources. Stressing the role of trees, he said a small tree absorbs 20 kg of carbon dioxide annually and releases 14 kg of oxygen, yet India’s per capita tree count—only 28 trees—is among the lowest globally.
