Mahendragarh, August 12
The court of Additional Sessions Judge, Narnaul, Abdul Majid, on Thursday awarded five-year rigorous imprisonment to an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of Haryana Police posted at Mahendragarh police station after holding him guilty in a corruption case.
The court also slapped a penalty of Rs 5,000 on ASI Satyawan. On failing to deposit the fine, he would have to undergo additional six months imprisonment.
In a complaint lodged with the State Vigilance Bureau on October 13, 2018, Billu of Chandawas village in Rewari district alleged that his brother-in-law Birender Singh thrashed his sister Kela Devi in their house at Dewas village in Mahendragarh district.
His mother Santra Devi, sister Kaushalya Devi, nephew Deepak and son Krishan went to Dewas village on October 11, 2018 where they engaged in a quarrel with Birender who suffered injuries.
The Mahendragarh police filed a case under relevant Sections of the IPC on the complaint of Birender. ASI Satyawan demanded a bribe of Rs 20,000 from him in lieu of removing the names of his family members from the case, alleged the complainant.
Acting on the complaint, a team of the Vigilance Bureau later laid a trap and nabbed the ASI while accepting the bribe.
