Asian medallists get grand welcome at Bhiwani Boxing Club

Women boxers of the Bhiwani Boxing Club (BBC) were accorded a grand welcome at the academy after their remarkable performance at the Under-19 and Under-22 Asian Boxing Championships held in Bangkok, Thailand, from July 30 to August 11.

The boxers made the country proud by winning one gold and one bronze medal at the Asian meet.

Sharing the achievement, Kamal Pradhan, patron of Youth Welfare Organisation and president of Bhiwani Boxing Club, said in the Under-19 age group, Nisha Gularia defeated her Chinese opponent 4-1 to clinch the gold medal in the 54-kg category.

Nisha Gularia has earlier been a Junior World Champion. In the Under-22 age group, Parthavi Grewal won the bronze medal the 65-kg category, adding another feather to the club’s cap. She, too, was a Youth World Champion in 2024.

Dronacharya awardee coach Jagdish Singh highlighted that around 150 women boxers from the club have made their mark at the international level.

“The boxers of Bhiwani Boxing Club have brought the laurels to country and Haryana. It’s not only about ‘Beti Padhao, Beti Bachao’, but ‘Beti Khilao’ as well. A player who works hard with discipline reaches their destination faster,” Jagdish Singh added.

The coach urged the players to stay away from addiction, avoid shortcuts to success and win medals purely through hard work.

The welcome ceremony was attended by former SAI in-charge Brijbhan, wrestling coach Bhupendra Singh, Rishi Sangwan, former athletics coach Jagdish Prasad, Deepak Mor, coach Kuldeep Singh, Anil Seshma, Balbir Singh Bajad, Amit Atri, treasurer Champa Devi and coach Jagdish Sangwan and several sports enthusiasts.
