The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) embarked on the excavation at the Harappan era site in Rakhigarhi village of Hisar district today. Rakhigarhi is known as the largest town of the Indus Valley Civilisation spread over 550 acres, dating back to 4,000 to 5,500 years.

Joint director general of the ASI Sanjay Manjul said a team of 12 archaeologists had started the project from mound number one, which was a residential site in the ancient times. — TNS
