Assam minister visits Lt Narwal’s family, hands over Rs 5 lakh cheque
Assam’s Minister of Science and Technology Keshab Mahanta met the family of Lt Vinay Narwal, who was killed in a terror attack in Pahalgam on April 22, and conveyed condolences on behalf of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. The minister handed over a cheque of Rs 5 lakh to the bereaved family as a token of support.
“Lt Narwal was among the brave people who lost their lives when terrorists opened fire in Pahalgam, claiming several lives in a tragic incident that shook the nation,” said the minister.
Speaking to the media, he said, “It has been a month since the terrorist attack in Pahalgam took place. On behalf of the Assam Government and CM Himanta Biswa Sarma, I extend heartfelt condolences to the family of Lt Vinay Narwal.” He added that the Assam Government has resolved to visit the residences of all those who lost their lives in this terror attack.
Referring to the growing threat of espionage and terrorist activity, the minister stated that spies were being apprehended continuously and expressed full confidence in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership. “Our PM has taken bold decisions that no leader has taken before,” he said. He praised Operation Sindoor and said, “We are grateful to the PM for taking decisive action. The PM has responded with a fitting reply through Operation Sindoor.”
The minister further expressed confidence that the central government would find a lasting solution to the menace of terrorism and reiterated that India’s armed forces and intelligence agencies are giving a befitting response to such acts of aggression.
Rajesh Narwal, father of Lt Vinay Narwal, spoke about the hardship the family has endured since the tragedy. “There is no doubt that we have been in mourning ever since. The pain we are going through is beyond words. It is something that cannot be expressed,” he said.
Despite their profound loss, Rajesh expressed appreciation for the government’s response, particularly the retaliatory Operation Sindoor carried out by Indian forces. “The operation has sent a clear message to terrorists — that if you dare to act against India, you will not be spared. This is also a clear message from our PM,” he said.
