Assembly panel inspects Sonepat sports university

A committee of the Haryana Legislative Assembly conducted an inspection of the Sports University of Haryana, Rai, and the Motilal Nehru Sports School (MNSS), Rai, on Monday. The committee, headed by Samalkha MLA Manmohan Bhadana, visited a library and inspected sports facilities being provided to students at both institutes.

Bhadana, along with Sonepat MLA Nikhil Madaan, Maham MLA Balram Dangi, Julana MLA Vinesh Phogat, and Pundri MLA Satpal Jamba, reviewed academic programmes, sports training infrastructure, student attendance, coaching arrangements, and ongoing research activities.

The members interacted with the university administration to understand current challenges and future requirements. Bhadana appreciated the efforts being made by the university, and emphasised the need to further strengthen facilities to help Haryana’s sporting talents reach national and international levels.

He said Haryana had always been a leading state in sports, and must continue this legacy through enhanced institutional support.

Madan highlighted the importance of appointing international consultants to help the university nurture players according to global standards.

Phogat, Dangi, and Jamba suggested increasing workshops on mental health, nutrition, and injury management for athletes.

They also recommended procuring international-grade sports equipment to ensure high-quality training and preparation for upcoming global events such as the Olympics.

Committee members visited classrooms and sports stadiums at the MNSS and the sports university.

Sports university Vice-Chancellor Ashok Kumar presented the university’s achievements before the committee, saying, in less than two years, the institution had made remarkable progress, and now ranked among the top three sports universities in India in terms of student strength.
