Assistant at Rohtak varsity held in MBBS exam scam

The district police on Thursday arrested another employee of Pt BD Sharma University of Health Sciences, Rohtak, in connection with the MBBS examination scam.

Anil Kumar, an assistant at the university, is accused of providing blank answer sheets to one of the racketeers involved in the scam. With this action, the total number of arrests in the case has now reached six.

A three-member fact-finding committee had revealed that 46 blank answer sheets were found missing from university records

According to sources, Anil had been suspended in February by the university authorities after his name surfaced in the case during a fact-finding inquiry. Today, he surrendered before a local court, from where the police took him into custody.

Confirming the arrest, DSP Dalip Singh, who is leading the investigation, said Anil was posted as Deputy Superintendent at an examination centre located in the university’s administrative block during the MBBS exams held in January and February 2024. “He had provided blank answer sheets to one of the key accused during the exam,” the DSP added.

A three-member fact-finding committee, headed by Dr MK Garg, Director, Kalpana Chawla Government Medical College, Karnal, revealed that 46 blank answer sheets were found missing from university records. Some of these sheets were used in subsequent exams held in April and May 2024.

Sources further revealed that these answer sheets were filled by other than actual students at the residence of a university employee. The forged sheets were later swapped with original answer books with the help of a Class-IV employee posted in the university’s secrecy branch.

In February, the police had booked 41 individuals, including 24 MBBS students of a private medical college and 17 university employees in connection with the scandal.
