Authorities crack down on illegal nurseries in Gurugram

In a major crackdown against unregistered nurseries in the district, the Horticulture Department has destroyed plants of various species in unregistered nurseries of Pataudi and Farrukhnagar sections. Notices have also been issued to nurseries of Gurugram and Sohna by District Horticulture Officer Neha Yadav.

During the inspection, all fruit plants, which are not true to type or are suffering from insects and other diseases, were seized on the spot and destroyed. Yadav said no nursery in Gurugram district had a fruit licence. “These nurseries are cheating farmers and urban customers by selling plants of unknown lineage at three to four times the rate. In such a situation, notices are being issued to all nurseries under the Punjab Fruit Act, 1961, by the District Horticulture Department. Even after this, if fruit-bearing plants are found in any nursery, necessary action will be taken against them as per rules,” said Yadav.

She said the most important expense in horticulture farming was that of plants. To avoid any kind of financial loss, farmers of the district are registered with the National Horticulture Board. Purchase fruit plants from nurseries only, she said. She said the details of nurseries registered with the National Horticulture Board were available on the department’s website.
