Award for Vinesh Phogat overjoys villagers

Elated over recommendation of Vinesh Phogat for Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna, residents of Balali village in Charkhi Dadri termed it a watershed moment in women’s wrestling.

Vinesh’s uncle Mahavir Phogat thanked the National Sports Awards Selection Committee and the Centre. “I am confident that she will win gold in the Tokyo Olympics,” he stated, adding that the award came as a big motivation for her.

Prem Lata, Vinesh’s mother, expressed happiness and said Vinesh would leave no stone unturned to win gold in the Olympics.

“She has proved that she is the best bet in women’s wrestling in Tokyo,” said sports writer Tejpal Dalal.
