The Teacher Transfer Policy-2025, which has been released by the Haryana Government recently, has been questioned and opposed by the government school teachers, who have won national and state awards for their meritorious work.

"Widespread resentment prevails among the teaching fraternity on certain aspects of the policy, particularly for neglecting the teachers who have received national and state awards," maintained Rajendra Sharma, state president of the National and State Award-Winning Teachers' Association, Haryana.

He lamented that repeated requests had been made to the top state authorities, including the Chief Minister, for according due priority to the award-winning teachers in the new transfer policy, but to no avail. The teachers' leader stated that before the policy was formulated, the state government had sought suggestions from teachers' organisations through the Directorate of Education.

"Our association had asserted that the provision of five points to the award-winning teachers, which was there in the previous policy, should be kept intact in the new policy as well. However, that provision has been abolished in the new policy despite a positive assurance by the Chief Minister," said Sharma, who is himself a state awardee and presently serving as Deputy District Education Officer, Rewari.

He pointed out that while a provision for penalty points has been made in the new policy, no benefit has been given to the award-winning teachers.

"Our association comprises nearly 500 teachers serving across the state, who have received national and state awards. We have always made requests to the authorities concerned instead of resorting to agitation, but our pleas have not been heard," he stated.

box: Some pertinent points

- As per the new transfer policy, up to 10 points can be deducted on the basis of penalties or disciplinary action faced during service. However, no points will be granted to the teachers who have received national or state awards.

- No preference has been granted to the teachers who have achieved outstanding results in board exams

- The new policy has a provision for granting five points in couple cases (wherein both husband and wife are in government service), which, the association maintains, is unfair for the other male teachers
