The state AyushDepartment has withdrawn the approval granted to seven formulations of surface disinfectants.

The disinfectant formulations for which the approval has been cancelled are Gopure Surface Disinfectant Spray, Hygienic 33 Multipurpose Disinfectant Spray, Runbugz Surface Sanitizer Spray, Bodyguard Multipurpose Disinfectant Spray, Stanvac Instant Disinfectant Spray, Stanrelief Multipurpose Spray and Stanfresh Super Disinfectant Floor Cleaner.

The action by the Ayush Department has come in the wake of a raid on disinfectant manufacturing unit at Gurugram by a team of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) last month.

The raid on June 23 had trigged a controversy with the FDA officials, saying that the Ayush Department was not authorised to issue approvals for the manufacture of surface disinfectants.

Dr Satish Khatkar, Licencing Authority for the Ayush Department, said: “The approval was issued by oversight, since the words human body and surface were written at two different places on the application. The manufacturers can, however, apply afresh by mentioning that these are for the use for human beings.”
