After the declaration of the first list of its 32 candidates, the Congress has faced revolt in the Bahadurgarh Assembly constituency with its local prominent leader Rajesh Joon tendering his resignation from the party.

He also announced to contest the election as an independent candidate from Bahadurgarh after holding a meeting with his supporters today.

Joon had unsuccessfully contested as an Independent from Bahadurgarh in 2014 and secured 28,242 votes. He had also filed nomination papers in 2019 but withdrew in favour of sitting Congress MLA Rajendra Singh Joon.

The Congress has made Rajendra its nominee this time as well, leading to a revolt in the party.

“I have resigned from the post of delegate and have withdrawn the primary membership, deciding to jump into the fray as an Independent as asked for by my supporters who too are disappointed  because of the Congress’ disregard for me. I have worked for the party with full dedication and hard work over the past several years but it has cheated me by not giving the ticket. I have been used and thrown,” said Joon while talking to the media in Bahadurgarh on Saturday.

“The Congress leaders had promised to field me in this election. Following which, I had withdrawn my nomination papers but they failed to fulfil the promise forcing me to take this decision. I have launched my campaign and will file nomination on September 11,” he added.

Joon said his supporters had pulled up their socks to ensure the Congress nominee lost in the election.

After the declaration of the first list of candidates, not only the Congress but also the BJP are facing resistance from their leaders in Bahadurgarh. Former BJP MLA Naresh Kaushik too has shown his resentment by protesting the party’s decision of fielding his younger brother Dinesh Kaushik. He has also demanded the BJP leadership to change its decision.
