The Bahadurgarh Municipal Council (MC) has launched a special campaign to recover outstanding property taxes in Bahadurgarh, a town located on the Haryana-Delhi border.

As part of the campaign, the MC authorities have issued notices to 300 property owners, instructing them to pay their overdue property taxes to avoid further legal action. All recipients of these notices owe more than Rs 1 lakh in property taxes.

Interestingly, several government offices, including the Haryana Vidyut Prasaran Nigam, the Excise and Taxation Department, and others, are among the defaulters on the list. The MC authorities have warned that if the taxes are not paid promptly, their properties will be sealed.

“Property tax is the primary source of income for urban local bodies. However, many industries, commercial and educational establishments and even government offices in Bahadurgarh have failed to pay their property taxes on time, prompting the municipal authorities to take action,” said an official from the Municipal Council.

Sanjay Rohilla, Executive Officer of the Bahadurgarh Municipal Council, said the council aimed at recovering Rs 25 crore in property taxes through the campaign. However, the total outstanding dues far exceed the target.

“If the property tax dues are not paid, action will be taken in accordance with the provisions of the Haryana Municipal Act, 1973. Institutions failing to pay their taxes may also face property sealing,” he said, adding that collection of property tax would be used in carrying out development works in Bahadurgarh.

Another official said a copy of the assessment bill was also being sent along with the notice, so that errors or discrepancies such as previous payments could be addressed and corrected. The camps were also being organised by the MC authorities at various places in Bahadurgarh to rectify the error in the bills, he added.
