Bahadurgarh to have round-the-clock surveillance system to check crime
In a major step, a state-of-the-art city surveillance system will be set up in Bahadurgarh town, located on the border of Delhi and Haryana, here. It will not only help in enhancing security, but also keep tabs on illegal activities round the clock in the city.
“The project will be implemented by the Bahadurgarh police in collaboration with the Bahadurgarh Chamber of Commerce and Industries (BCCI) and Bahadurgarh Footwear Park Association. Under the project, a total of 350 high-resolution close-circuit television (CCTV) cameras will be installed at 100 key locations across the city. These cameras are expected to be fully operational by the end of this month,” said Narendra Chhikara, senior vice-president, BCCI.
He said the cameras, equipped with Wi-Fi and AI technology, would also provide advanced features such as vehicle number recognition and face detection. The installation was being funded through a joint effort by the industrialists associated with the BCCI and the Footwear Park Association, he claimed.
Chhikara highlighted that the total cost for the first phase of the project was approximately Rs 1.5 crore. “The cameras will be installed at every major crossing and industrial sector of Bahadurgarh. The control room for monitoring the cameras is being set up at the city police station in Bahadurgarh. In addition to improving security, the cameras will also help monitor traffic violations, such as speeding and reckless driving,” he added.
Sources said while the state government had initially approved the budget for installing CCTV cameras in the city, the project faced delays due to coordination issues between departments. In response, the local industrialists, in collaboration with the police, took the initiative of installing CCTV cameras across the city to ensure better safety and surveillance.
A police official said the work was under way for establishing a control room at the City police station in Bahadurgarh town following the directives of higher authorities.
“So far, 118 cameras have been installed at 43 key locations in the city. The process is also under way to install cameras at other crucial points in Bahadurgarh. The project will be completed at the earliest and it will help the police in checking the crime,” he added.
