Rain accompanied by thunderstorm caused significant damage across Hisar region. Traffic and power supply to many areas was disrupted due to trees and electricity poles falling. However, a major breach occurred in the Balsamand branch canal near Rajpur village adjoining Hisar town. The canal provides raw water to waterworks for supply of potable water in Hisar town.

According to information, trees fell into the canal which blocked the flow of water resulting in breach near Rajpur. The overflow of water damaged the canal embankment, creating a breach approximately 50 ft wide. As a result, canal water flooded about 100 acres of agriculture land and even reached the nearby industrial areas in Hisar town.

Mayor Praveen Popli and other officials of the departments concerned today visited the canal to assess the situation. JCB machines have been deployed to clear debris and repair the breach on a war footing. The Mayor assured the residents that a full team was on the way to restore the damaged canal section.

Meanwhile, waterlogging was reported in several neighbourhoods, including Delhi Road, Auto Market, Rajgarh Road, Shanti Nagar and Industrial Areas. The officials of the departments concerned were mobilised overnight to pump out the accumulated water.

The weather conditions suddenly worsened last night as there was rain and thunderstorm. The storm uprooted trees and damaged power lines, plunging many areas into darkness. Hundreds of electricity poles reportedly collapsed, severely affecting the power supply in both urban and rural regions, the officials informed.

The authorities have since launched repair and relief operations, but concerns remain high among farmers and residents over the lingering effects of the storm and the canal breach. The IMD report stated that a persistent western disturbance continues to affect weather patterns across northern India.
