Kaithal, January 3

Three youths, who had entered a branch of Gramin Bank in Teek village of this district in the wee hours of Wednesday, were overpowered by a bank employee with the help of villagers.

They were later arrested by a Central Intelligence Agency-2 (CIA) team from the spot and produced in a local court on Thursday and sent to police remand for further interrogation.

Things like iron rods, equipment to break open bank cash locker and electrically operated tools were seized from them.

Police honour Alert villager, clerk

CIA-2 incharge Satyavan told mediapersons that a bank clerk informed the police that he was told by a villager, Som Nath, that some youths had entered the bank late at night after breaking open the main shutter.

The clerk, with the help of villagers, brought the shutters down.

On getting information, Satyavan, along with Sub-Inspector Lalit Mohan and a police team, reached the village and overpowered the youths with the support of the villagers.

The three miscreants were identified as Umesh, Kuldip alias Sonu and and Amit, all residents of Safidon in Jind district.

During preliminary interrogation, the accused confessed that they had stolen Rs 14 lakh from Safidon Cooperative Bank two years ago; Rs 10 lakh from Cooperative Bank at Chirao in Karnal district about two years ago; Rs 32,000 from Utkarsh Bank in Gharaunda; and Rs 1 lakh from Sahara Bank in Gohana about two months back.
