The Bhartiya Kisan Union (BKU), along with office-bearers of the Arhtiya Association, held a demonstration in the new grain market, Jagadhri, today demanding that purchasing of paddy crop should be started immediately.
The BKU also gave a memorandum to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini through Yamunanagar Deputy Commissioner Captain Manoj Kumar at the Mini-Secretariat here in support of their demand.
Sanju Gundiana, district president of the BKU, addressed the farmers, who held the demonstration under the banner of the BKU and arhtiyas.
He said the paddy crop was ready for harvesting in agriculture fields and the crop had also started arriving in the grain markets of the state.
He further said the government had issued a letter to start procurement from September 23, but it issued a fresh letter mentioning that now the procurement would be started on October 1 in all grain markets.
He said by postponing the date of procurement, the government had cheated the farmers.
“The government should start the procurement of paddy immediately. Otherwise, the farmers will be forced to take to streets against the government and oppose the BJP government in the election,” said Sanju Gundiana.
On the occasion, district president of Arhtiya Association Jagmal Singh Sherpur, Manish Kamboj, Sanjay Gupta, farmer leaders Mandeep Ror Chhappar, Sandeep Topra, Gurveer Singh, Harpal Singh Sudhal, Krishna Pal, Shiv Kumar Sandhala, Raj Kumar, Joginder Singh, Harbinder Cheema, Vishal Saini and Shivam Kumar were also present.
