Bhiwani Boxer gets gold at World Championships

Bhiwani, famously known as the “Sports City” and “Mini Cuba” of India, has once again brought pride to the nation. Jasmine Lamboria, a female boxer from Bhiwani, won the gold medal in the 57 kg category at the World Boxing Championship held in Liverpool, England, from September 4 to 14.

When Jasmine took up boxing in Class X, neither she nor her family could have imagined such a monumental achievement. Returning home with the gold medal, she received a grand welcome in Bhiwani, where locals celebrated her victory, hailing her as the pride of the city.

Jasmine is now India’s ninth World Champion in boxing. She credited her success to her coach, family, hard work and strict discipline. Addressing mediapersons, Jasmine said her win has brought joy to her family and the entire town. She is now preparing for the 2026 Asian Games and Commonwealth Games.

Jasmine said World Cup Final would be held in India this October, with a training camp scheduled to start soon. Her ultimate goal is to win a medal for India at the 2029 Olympics.

Discussing her matches, Jasmine said she fought five bouts to claim gold. She faced an Olympic medallist during the championship and focused on staying calm while employing sharp counter-attacks to secure victory.

Her father Jaibir, mother Jogender Kaur, and uncle Mahabir shared that Jasmine was inspired by her family’s sporting background, with her uncle also a former boxer. In 2016, while in Class 11, Jasmine decided to dedicate herself fully to boxing.

Her family noted that times have changed and daughters are now given equal importance as sons.
