A man, identified as Subhash, 40, strangulated his two teenaged children to death before attempting suicide at Dhanana village of Bhiwani district. Police sources informed that Subhash mixed sleeping pills into mango shake and gave it to his children. After they were unconscious, he strangled them with a rope. He then consumed poison in an apparent suicide attempt and tried to hang himself from a ceiling fan when a neighbour noticed commotion inside the room and raised an alarm. The neighbours rushed to his house and took him to the hospital.

Police sources said that Subhash’s wife, Saroj, died under suspicious circumstances about a month ago and he was upset after the incident. Subhash blamed his parents for pushing him into mental distress alleging that his mother’s behaviour resulted in the death of his wife.

He revealed he had been contemplating suicide ever since Saroj’s death on May 8, but couldn't bear the thought of leaving the children behind.

Sadar police station SHO Narender Kumar said that the children’s grandmother has lodged a formal complaint in the incident and the police had registered a case of murder against Subhash. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination and the investigation is on, he said.
