Bhiwani residents run from pillar to post, sewer lines remain choked

The long-standing issue of choked sewer lines in sectors 13 and 23 of Bhiwani has worsened over the past few days, with sewage water spilling on to the road. This has greatly inconvenienced area residents.

Bhiwani Residents Welfare Association (RWA) president Ramkishan Sharma said the deteriorating condition of the sewerage system had resulted in unsanitary conditions due to overflowing drains.

Sharma said the association had repeatedly submitted complaints to local legislators and grievance committees, but to no avail.

Since former minister JP Dalal is a resident of Sector 13, residents had taken up this issue with him a year ago. He had directed the Chief Administrator of the Haryana Shahri Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP) to address the issue. The condition of the sewerage systems has, however, not improved.

The poor condition of the sewerage system had led to sewers frequently overflowing, resulting in dirty water back-flowing into homes, making it difficult for residents to live in a hygienic environment, Sharma said.

The foul smell and the stagnant water had raised concerns about potential health hazards, he added.

The RWA has now written to Bhiwani and Bawani Khera BJP MLAs, demanding immediate action.

Sharma urged the administration to clean sewer lines before the monsoons to prevent further deterioration.

Several residents — including Dr Satbir, Ramesh Jain, Dr Phool Singh Dhanana, Ramdhan Jangra, Om Prakash, Rajender Jogpal, Harish Rohilla, Yashpal, Bajrang Lal and Dharam Singh Dahiya — were present during the association’s meeting to discuss the issue.
