Loharu, Bawani Khera and Siwani municipal councils in Bhiwani district witnessed 75.4 per cent voter turnout today.
According to the State Election Commission, Siwani recorded 82 per cent polling followed by Loharu, 73.8 per cent, and Bawani Khera, 70.4 per cent.
A total of 43,294 voters exercised their franchise to elect chairpersons and councillors across 26 wards in the three urban local bodies (ULBs). A total of 177 candidates were in the fray in three ULBs. Additionally, one candidate each was elected unopposed in Siwani and Loharu.
To ensure peaceful polling, the authorities implemented strict security measures. A total of 52 polling teams, nine patrolling teams and 15 checkpoints were in place to maintain law and order.
Each municipality had a dedicated Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) and an Inspector leading security operations. Police personnel were stationed both inside and outside polling booths to ensure the safety of voters and election materials.
Bawani Khera’s BJP MLA Kapoor Valmiki cast his vote along with his family and was confident of the victory.
He highlighted key development projects in the region, including improved water supply, a new hospital building and approval of two stadiums.
Though voting largely remained peaceful, a minor incident was reported at booth No 7 in Bawani Khera around 2 pm. A dispute arose when outsiders attempted to enter the polling station, leading to tensions between two groups.
The situation was quickly brought under control by deploying additional police force. The authorities continued to monitor the situation closely to ensure smooth election proceedings.
