A 20-year-old youth Sahil from Nandgaon village in Bhiwani district died in Canada just a month after he went there for higher studies. His family said that they had sold their land and invested all their savings to send him abroad.

His father, retired Army man Harish Kumar, had sold a 160-square-yard plot for Rs 17 lakh and also used his retirement funds to raise a total of Rs 40 lakh to send his son to Canada for pursuing web design course.

Sahil had left for Canada from Delhi airport on the night of April 23 and reached there on April 24. He was in regular touch with his family and appeared happy. However, a few days later, his roommates noticed that he hadn’t returned to his place and began searching for him. When they couldn’t find him, they informed the local police.

The police recovered a body from a lake in Hamilton on the night of May 26-27 which was later identified as that of Sahil, the family members informed mediapersons.

The Canadian police reportedly said that Sahil drowned, but his family suspects foul play. Sahil’s uncle Mukesh said that Sahil was a good swimmer, so it seems unlikely that he drowned accidentally. They suspect he was murdered and his body was dumped in the water. The family is demanding a fair investigation into the incident.
