Bhiwani’s main HUDA Park is reduced to a picture of sheer neglect and deterioration due to poor condition in the absence of maintenance by the authorities concerned.

Once bustling with activities, especially in the mornings and evenings, the park is infested with overgrown grass, broken benches, damaged walkways and heaps of garbage and damaged walls, which have turned it into an unwelcoming space. residents alleged the administration was turning a blind eye to it, leading to conditions worsening day by day.

Retired Subedar Major Virender Singh Grewal, who is the district president of the Bhiwani Veterans’ Organisation, along with other office-bearers raised the issue and demanded repair work to be done in the park. Grewal said there were multiple problems in the park. “There is filth everywhere, grass has grown uncontrollably, increasing the threat of venomous creatures such as snakes. Toilets are unusable due to lack of cleanliness, children’s swings and benches are broken, and there is no lighting in the park at night,” said Grewal.

“The railings are broken, allowing stray animals to enter and gather inside. The area designated for yoga practice has a leaking roof, and plants and trees are drying up due to lack of water. Despite raising these concerns repeatedly with the district administration, no action has been taken so far,” he alleged.

The veteran leaders emphasised that parks were essential for both children and the elderly, but due to its poor state, people had stopped visiting the park. “It’s disheartening to see stray animals outnumbering the residents in the park,” they said.

The Veterans’ Organisation warned the officials that if the administration failed to act soon, it would be forced to hold protests and demand proper maintenance and revival of the park.
