Taking a dig at the state government, former Education Minister and Congress MLA Geeta Bhukkal has alleged that no serious efforts were being made to address waterlogging and sanitation issues in Jhajjar. She alleged that the situation has deteriorated due to administrative “apathy”.

Speaking to the media on Sunday, Bhukkal said the region had received excessive rainfall this year. “Garbage heaps lie scattered across the city, water is stagnating and pump sets haven’t been deployed to drain out water,” she claimed.

Bhukkal criticised the government for renaming Jhajjar’s only stadium without addressing its core issues. “The government must explain why no development has taken place even after renaming the stadium,” she asked.

The former minister said despite producing world-class athletes like Manu Bhaker, Bajrang Punia and Aman Sehrawat, the district lacks basic sports infrastructure. She claimed that funds brought in through her efforts for the development of the city and constituency were not being utilised properly.

Bhukkal added that she had raised key issues, including a solid waste management plan and poor condition of the stadium, in the Assembly. She alleged that despite assurances from the government, no work has been done on the ground.

The Congress leader emphasised that residents of both authorised and unauthorised colonies have equal rights and it is government’s duty to provide basic amenities to all.
